Painting non-GW models.

Goblins! Spiders! Demons! Come and see!

Painting non-GW models.

It's been 3 months since my last post. I've shared some stuff on Mastodon but had little time to sit down and compose a decent entry here (too much work and crippling vertigo are an amazing combo for that).

Without noticing (until I sat this morning in front of my computer) I've been painting exclusively non-GW models for months now, and it feels good in a weird way.

Let's start with this resin Pink Horror action figure from Theo Cane's Slime House.

I keep this MF trapped just in case...

I used really cheap spray cans, glossy acrylic paint because I wanted that "cheap plastic" feeling my old toys used to have. It's not perfect, and I'm probably going to repaint the eyes and some details in the future, but I'm just practicing for the blue transparent version (and the Genestealer, wait for that).

Then I switched to these Forest Goblin & Savage OrcsAMAZING models (I've talked about it before) by Brutefun. Used them as test models (skin recipes, colour scheme and basing). The whole team will be printed to match the scale of the Black Orcs & Goblin Bruisers team (I don't like the look of puny Strength 3 scaled orcs). My desk setup isn't 100% ready so my pictures are zoomed in (maybe too much). Sorry for the grainy look.

I've been also using cheap, pointy acrylic brushes for this and I' really happy with the results.

This one is really hard to photograph...

After this one I rebased 3 goblins and 3 tokens from my Underworld Denizens team before finishing the Rat Ogre. But wait, that's a GW miniature! You'll say. Fear not, this model is a cheap recast from a foreign dealer. Before the priming phase I left some bubble holes and mold lines (instead greenstuffing everything) so everyone that looks at it know.

I used more transfers than the usual (3 numerals, a checker strip and 2 Skaven tattoo marks). I also sculpted some foam around the mouth to match the behaviour of this beast in the game, and freehanded the positional name (because The Games Corporation never included the Rat Ogre name in the Underworld Denizens official transfer set).

About the base, you can see him about to cross a field line: When that happened in our last game during a kick-off blitz event the Rat Ogre failed a sprint test to get to the opposing team line, fell to the ground and KO'd on his own.

As a last treat, here's the 2 big models side to side:

PS: Senpai Brutefun noticed me and I couldn't help myself so there you have, 2 "hobby achievements unlocked" in a row:
